You can apply online through the student finance website for England, Wales or Northern Ireland, according to where you are from, or on paper – directly to your Local Authority in most areas, although some Local Authorities are currently testing a new system through which you need to apply to SLC. You can find out which is your Local Authoirty and its contact details using a facility on the website, where forms and guides are also available. If you are a new student you should apply for your loan as soon as soon you have applied for a course – you do not need to wait until you have been accepted.



If you choose not to include financial information in your form the deadline for sending it in will be the April before you start your course or June for other new students to make you receive funds at the start of your first term.

You can also take out a special new student loan for fees, although you do not have to pay these until after your course. The money is paid directly to your university or college.
